Yesterday an article was published in Global Astronomy Month about my friend Ibrahim Amiri. He is one of our active members who graduated from Physics Department of Kabul University. I couldn't help not to share it with you:

Faces of Astronomy

Name: Ibrahim Amiri

Location: Kabul, Afghanistan.

I am a physics major and amateur astronomer. I have been passionate about stars since I was 7, growing up in a country torn up by war; I could manage to learn basics of astronomy through books and internet. Together with Yunos Bakhshi - the founder of Afghanistan Astronomy Association – and other members of the institution, I have had multiple visits to schools across Kabul and few other provinces to operate our telescopes and share my passion and curiosity with schoolchildren. I am mainly interested in operating telescopes and photographing DSOs using DSLR and/or CCD cameras. I now plan to build a homemade observatory on the rooftop of my house in Kabul, it will enable me to stay with the telescope for longer periods of time and help me improve my skills in observational astronomy.
